What happens if the death is unexpected?
An unexpected death can be sudden, tragic (result of an accident), unlawful or when the deceased has ended their own life
In these cases, the Coroner will become involved. The police attend on the Coroner’s behalf. A nominated funeral director will remove the deceased to hospital or Coroner’s mortuary for further investigation. If this happens outside of normal working hours, they’ll store the deceased until they can take it to hospital or Coroner’s mortuary.
