If your loved one dies at home, you can have as much time as you want to be with them after they die. Even with deaths that are expected, you may well find yourself in some degree of shock. Remember at this stage there is no urgency to call a funeral director. You will need to contact the GP and let them know that the person has died. As this may be out of hours you may get the locum doctor. It may take several hours before the doctor arrives and pronounces death. Once the doctor (or paramedics) have been, the deceased can be moved to the funeral home.
The funeral director will take the person’s body to the funeral home if you wish. You can arrange with the funeral directors to visit your loved one, if you feel you want to see them again before the funeral.
