When someone dies in a Nursing Home
Call us on 01902 213477 for immediate help. If someone dies in a nursing home or care home, a doctor will be called to confirm the person has died. This may be the duty on call doctor or the normal doctor. Once they have done this, we can come and take the deceased into our care.
The deceased’s own doctor will issue the Medical Cause of Death Certificate to the family or next of kin. You will need this to register the death. Often you can collect this from the surgery. Some nursing homes may have a mortuary room, so if a death occurs in the early hours, your loved one can remain there overnight. If they do not have this facility the nursing home will call the funeral director of your choice. You will still have time to spend with your loved one before the funeral director arrives.
It is important to remember in all cases of death (as described above) you will have the opportunity to see your loved one again before the funeral at the funeral director’s chapel of rest.
